Brumstead Population

{short description of image}

The above graph has been drawn using data from the following ;

1086 - 25 men noted in the Domesday Survey x 4.25 (man plus wife plus 2.25 children).

Between 1086 to 1562 - Pure speculation but with some factors taken into consideration such as the Lay subsidies noted in 1334 and 1499 plus the Black Death reducing the population of England by 25% to 33% (known to have affected Brumstead).

Between 1562 to 1831 - A standard formula using the average number of baptisms over a set period of time (then the result being adjusted accordingly due to the results not agreeing with known population numbers between 1831 to the present - peculiar to Brumstead). In 1664 15 Hearths were recorded x 4.25 (man plus wife plus 2.25 children).

Between 1831 to the present - Kelly's and White's directories of Norfolk, Census returns, Clerical directories, etc,.

It must be noted that due to the varied and uncertain mature of the data used (especially prior to 1831) the above graph should be viewed as being a very rough guide at best plus it should also be noted that from 1562 onwards the graph line has been smoothed out and so at any given point it may not exactly agree with a particular directory of census return..
